Für die eindeutige Identifizierung archivierter Bilddaten werden sog. Metadaten erstellt, die den Bildern beigefügt werden. Sie enthalten sowohl technische Angaben, in denen die Produktionsbedingungen der Digitalisierung benannt werden, als auch bibliografische Angaben. Alle Angaben werden später zu index.meta-Dateien auf archive/data umgewandelt.

Der Ort, von dem aus die Metadaten über die zu archivierenden Quellen erstellt werden, ist die Filemaker-Datenbank. Aus FileMaker werden dazu eine Reihe von Feldern exportiert, die in den Metadaten zu Tags umgewandelt werden.

Das erste Feld, das hinsichtlich eindeutiger Identifizierung der Bilder wichtig ist, ist das Feld derived from. Es soll Aufschluss darüber geben, auf welche Urspungsversion sich eine Bearbeitungsstufe eines Bildes zurückführen lässt. Im VLP beruhen die Bilder in “pages” auf den “raw”-Dateien, in der Bibliothek lautet die Benennung “user” - “raw”. Dieser Tag soll in der Zukunft eventuell das Erstellen eines “Versionsbaumes” von Digitalisaten ermöglichen, der institutsweit die Rückführung eines Bildes, das in verschiedenen Projekten in verschiedenen Versionen vorliegt, möglich macht.

Das zweite Feld, von dem hier die Rede ist, ist der production comment, er gibt Aufschluss darüber, unter welchen Bedingungen das Digitalisat hergestellt worden ist (Hardware, Software), enthält also die technischen Daten (s.u. Inhalt).

“Production Comment” und “derived from” befinden sich innerhalb des FileMaker Layouts “index.meta”, die Felder tauchen beim xml-Export und später in der index.meta-Datei als Tag auf.

Der Tag Production Comment ist hervorgehoben, begrenzt wird ein Tag immer durch <tagname>blablabla</tagname>.

Um bequem den Production comment und “derived from” für eine Quelle in FileMaker einfügen zu können, wird ins index.meta Layout gewechselt. Dies geschiet über den “Knopf” oben links.

Der “derived fom”-tag lässt sich, da im Skript als Standard-Text festgelegt, per Mausklick rechts neben dem Feld erstellen.

Achtung: Bei Scans, die von der Digigroup kommen, funktioniert dies nicht: Dort soll der Pfad zur Library (/mpiwg/archive/data/library/1234XYZQ/user) eingefügt werden.

(Sofern die Quelle von der Digigroup digitalisiert worden ist, ist das Feld “raw location” schon ausgefüllt, denn dieses wird aus der Datenbank VL-Digitalisierung gespiegelt.)

Für die Bilddaten des VLP gibt es zwei Standard-Tags:

1. Für Scans, die vom VLP hergestellt wurden:

• /mpiwg/archive/data/vlp/lit12345/raw (= die “ursprünglichste” Version befindet sich in der VLP-Sektion auf archive/data…raw, “pages” sind ein Derivat davon)

2. Für Scans von der Digigroup

• /mpiwg/archive/data/library/WXYZ1234/raw (= die “ursprünglichste” Version befindet sich in der library-Sektion auf archive/data…raw, “pages” sind ein Derivat davon)

(Die ID der Bibliothek (WXYZ1234) muss evtl. in der Datenbank archiv_id nachgeschaut werden.)

Produktionsbedingungen sind:

• Namen der zur Digitalisierung verwendeten Hardware (Scanner, Kameras)

• verwendete Bildbearbeitungssoftware und ihre Versionen

• Arbeitsschritte von der raw- zur final-Version der Bilder

• Erläuterung der Verzeichnisstruktur für andere Versionen der Bilder

Die unten angegebenen Beispiele müssen je nach vorliegendem Digitalisat angepasst werden.
