How to update the postgreSQL server databases

:!: Warning: this does NOT apply to vl_literature and vl_images!
Please see the manual for the XML update procedere instead.

  1. Step: give the update tool access to the Filemaker database(s)
    • open the Filemaker database(s) in your local Filemaker client and activate the Webcompanion for each database by selecting its checkbox under File:Sharing… (German: Ablage:Sharing…)
  2. Step: synchronize the Filemaker database and the postgreSQL database with the fm.jar tool
    [latest version under http://pythia.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de/toolserver/fm2sql]
    • choose the data source on the left side:
      jdbc:fmpro:http://localhost:8050
      password: vlp:vlp-standard (Berlin), in Arizona please use your own one (msunder:…)
      :!: Attention: the VL-Essays database requires a different password!
    • on the right side choose the destination database:
      jdbc:postgresql://vlp/vlp_data (Berlin) or
      jdbc:postgresql://sols-xserve-1.la.asu.edu/vlpData in Arizona respectivly
      password: vlp:vlp-standard (Berlin), admin:vlp-standard (ASU)
    • choose the correct mode from the options menu: Convert Temp Mode
    • select the database(s) on the left side by clicking on the first column, a checkmark will appear.
      Then start the update by clicking Convert Table (Temp), dependimg on the size of the database, this may take some time.
